My schedule is fairly flexible now, but as we near the end of the scool year, it will fill up quickly. You can take a look at my schedule in a new window here.
As an engineer, I believe that math and science are tools to help us get along in a very complicated world. As such, I teach not only a fundamental understanding of mathematics, be it Algebra or Calculus, but a deep appreciation of how math surrounds us. From ice skating to race cars, there is not a single hobby, sport or business that is not better understood with mathematics.
As you may guess, I really enjoy outdoor activities. Sailing, paddling and surfing are three of my favorites. My logo is intended to draw the connection between the dreaded Sine function and something as beautiful and elegant as ocean swell.
There are an elite few who study pure mathematics for the esoteric value of human advancement. They blur the lines between philosophy, religion, science and mathematics. I am but a simple man, merely trying to get along. It just so happens that I believe math makes getting along a lot easier.
If you read my "About Me" page, or anything on my personal web site, you can deduce that I am not a strict academic. I was a student-athlete all through high-school and college and believe strongly in the need for athletics and other extracurricular activities.
Most importantly, a good rapport between student and teacher is critical. I do not want to be an extension of teacher or parent. I am just a guy, who likes football, beer and rock and roll, who happens to be good at teaching math. Most students find that to be a welcome change, and consequently respond well to my style.
If you are looking for a ruler-wielding, pocket-protector-carrying academic to help you or your child with their trig, well, I'm not the guy. If my style piques your interest, give me a call.
